The starter motor engages the engine's flywheel to crank and start the engine. Starter motor failure is often caused by worn brushes, a failed solenoid, damaged engagement gear, or internal electrical faults. Our starter motor diagnosis begins with testing the battery and charging system to rule out power supply issues, as a weak battery can produce symptoms identical to a failing starter. We then test the starter circuit including the ignition switch, starter relay, wiring connections, and the starter motor itself. We perform voltage drop tests on the power and ground circuits to identify high-resistance connections that can prevent the starter from receiving adequate current. This systematic approach ensures we address the root cause rather than replacing a starter motor when the fault is in the wiring.

After confirming the starter motor is faulty, we remove and either rebuild or replace it depending on the extent of the damage. Rebuilds include new brushes, solenoid, bearings, and engagement gear. For vehicles where the starter is difficult to access, we recommend replacement with a new unit to avoid the labour of a second removal if the rebuild fails. After installation, we test the starting system under various conditions and verify that the engine cranks strongly and starts reliably.
