Ceramic Brake Service

Carbon-ceramic (CCM) and silicon-carbide (SiC) brake discs are fitted to high-performance luxury cars as a lightweight, high-capacity alternative to conventional iron discs. These discs offer dramatically reduced weight (up to 70% lighter than equivalent iron discs), exceptional thermal stability, and virtually zero brake dust. However, they require specialised maintenance procedures and cannot be serviced using standard iron disc techniques. Ceramic brake discs require pads specifically designed for carbon-ceramic surfaces. Using incorrect pad compounds can damage the disc surface and significantly reduce its lifespan. We use manufacturer-approved pads from providers like Pagid and SBS that are formulated for ceramic disc compatibility. During service, we inspect the disc surface for delamination, check thickness against the minimum specification, and measure lateral runout to ensure even contact with the pad.

Ceramic brake systems are sensitive to contamination from conventional brake fluid, oils, and cleaning chemicals. During any ceramic brake service, we ensure only approved fluids and cleaning agents come into contact with the disc surfaces. We also inspect the ceramic disc mounting bells and bobbins for wear, as these connection points allow the disc to float and accommodate thermal expansion. Worn mounting hardware can cause disc misalignment and vibration.
